Evaluating Acts

IMG 2687

I spent the summer evaluating acts and happily found that there is lots of talent to be seen. It was interesting to find that there is still a lot of confusion among artist about how the music business works. I was even more surprised to find out that a great many veterans of twenty years or more had no better idea. The good news is that they all are excited about the direction the industry seems to be headed. To a person they were particularly optimistic about the new ways they can reach audiences and the fact that live performance has made a resurgence.

Presenting Performances

It is very exciting to be doing a series of salon mini performances to introduce a select group of artists to small audiences. It’s a great way for the artists to evaluate some material and a wonderful way to build the genre knowledge of the audience. I’s really interesting to see this interaction between artists and audiences. I’ve learned a lot from both. It’s humbling to sometimes learn that one’s perception of what an artist is doing is completely wrong. I’m hoping to keep this series going for the foreseeable future. Would love to get some of the other area venues booking managers involved as regular attendees.
